Yes, we offer anti-SARS CoV2-IgM antibody testing. The costs for this test are
€ 28 plus € 6.90 for blood drawing.

The result will be available via patient report server by 2 p.m. the following day at
the latest. However, in view of the currently massive increase in submissions, we
cannot guarantee a certain response time.

For a surcharge fee of € 25,- we guarantee preferential processing. Provided that
there are no analytical problems with the sample (e.g. inhibition), the results will
be available the same day. We cannot guarantee that the results will be ready at a
specific time point.

No, people with symptoms (fever, cough, ...) are NOT allowed to come to our
laboratory. Please call 1450 or contact your general practitioner by phone!

You should not eat, brush your teeth, or chew gum for an hour or two before the
throat swab. Coffee and cigarette consumption should also be avoided. If you
weren’t able to do this, you should in any case drink a few sips of clear water and
rinse your mouth well.

We would ask Contact Persons to call us. We can reserve a time slot to prevent
encounter with other patients to minimize the risk of infecting other people. Out of
consideration for other people’s health, you should absolutely comply with this!

After contact with a COVID19 infected person, it takes at least 2 days before an
infection can be detected. For most people it takes 5-6 days that PCR turns
positive, but a SARS CoV2 infection can even occur as late as 8-9 days after the
contact. That is the reason why at least 10-day segregation is officially decreed for
Contact Persons.

Yes, the SARS-CoV2-antibody-test performed in our laboratory detects neutralizing antibodies. However, according to the current decree of the Ministry of Health (3. COVID-19 MV) a positive titre is not accepted anymore to prove the “3G status” to free from requirement of PCR and/or antigen-testing to get access to specific services.

Studies indicate that higher antibody titres correlate with a better protection against infection and/or severe disease. With an antibody titre of 300-500 BAU/ml after COVID-19 infection or vaccination on can assume an immunity with 80-90% protection. At a titre below 65 BAU/ml you should consider a booster vaccination if your previous vaccination or infection was 5-6 months ago.

Please notice, this is not a go-ahead neglecting prevention measures (keeping
distance, wearing FFP-2 masks, hygienic measures, ...)

Please be aware oft he following limitations:

  • it is not known how long the immunity against the SARS-CoV2 virus may last.
  • even with a high titre of neutralizing antibodies you may get infected. A positive antibody titre is not a proove of full protection.
  • the protection against newly evolving virus variants may be limited.

The results should be available the following day. In view of the current massive
increase in submissions, however, we cannot guarantee a certain response time.

An English interpretation of the test result can be added to the lab report at no
additional cost. We only ask to announce it when you request the test.

There is no direct conversion factor. The new and improved test generation yields
on average 4-8 times higher values.

The answer to the question is no, absolute titres measured with different test systems are not directly comparable even if the have the same unit. However, the clinical interpretation derived from the titres should be the same (e.g. an antibody titre high above the cut-off value indicates a good immunity). Therefore, if you want to follow up antibody titers over time, you have to choose the same laboratory or at least a lab that uses the same test system. The reports of the Labor Dr. Tiran include the specification of the test system used.

An initial antibody control is recommended not earlier than 4-6 weeks after
infection.

Antibody tests are not recognized by all European countries and therefore cannot be integrated into the “Green Pass” as a certificate of recovery. Please find further information at www.gruenerpass.gv.at
